Gun of the Week: March 26 – April 1, 2018 | AR-15 Platform

Hey everyone, Ashley here with the Gun of the Week! This week we’re featuring our AR-15 platform rifles. In the mid-1950s Armalite produced their first AR-15. Many believe that AR stands for an assault rifle but it does not. It stands for Armalite rifle. Ironically the gun was produced in Hollywood California. It was created to be a lightweight rifle and to fire a new high-velocity lightweight small caliber cartridge. In 1959, Armalite sold its rights to Colt manufacturers and by the late 1960s, the patent had expired which allowed other manufacturers to then produce their own variations of the AR-15.

The AR-15 platform is modular, meaning everything about the gun can be changed to fit the owners wants and needs. Long distance shooters might add in a long barrel and a scope to the firearm. Someone who is using it for home defense might add a short barrel and a flashlight to the gun. You can even change the grip to fit your hand so you can shoot more comfortably.

Thousands of hunters across the world use the AR platform. It’s durable, it’s rugged, and it’s reliable. You can quickly and easily change the caliber which is a huge advantage to hunters and can even save them some money. I know here in Texas, we use the AR to cure the wild hog problem that we have.

The AR is manufactured by many companies. It is most popular with civilian shooters and law enforcement around the
world due to its accuracy and its customizability.
